Permanent Party UH Residents WI-FI Survey and
the Virtual Single Sailor Program
The Navy's MWR Department will soon launch a Virtual Single Sailor Program (VSSP), which will provide a new virtual entertainment environment including online entertainment, programmed virtual activities and events such as eSports, virtual scavenger hunts, virtual historic tours, online fitness, health resources and other offerings. That's coming in January 2024!
As part of the VSSP program, MWR and NEXCOM are bringing a FREE Wi-Fi pilot program at 12 Hampton Roads permanent party UH buildings located onboard Naval Station Norfolk, Naval Medical Center Portsmouth, and Norfolk Naval Shipyard beginning spring 2024. The concept for the pilot program is a result of the US Navy's efforts to improve Quality of Service (QOS). A QOS review by Navy leaders identified better access to high-speed Wi-Fi as an area of opportunity that would improve Sailors' quality of life and satisfaction with their Navy service.
Here's where you come in! If you are a resident in one of the selected permanent party UH buildings, please submit feedback about your current Wi-Fi needs and usage habits via a survey, which will run from January 8, 2024 through January 19, 2024. This data will provide a baseline of the Wi-Fi service already being used.
QR codes to access the survey will be posted in common areas at your UH building. You can easily complete the survey on your smartphone in less than five minutes. Take it once and you're done!
More good news! MWR will increase Wi-Fi speeds in ALL MWR facilities aboard Naval Station Norfolk, Naval Medical Center Portsmouth, and Norfolk Naval Shipyard as a result of this program.
What's Next?
Prior to the initiation of the pilot, more information will be available about how to get free or enhanced Wi-Fi for FREE!
